We are excited to announce that Wellington Pride Festival | Tū whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-a-Tara 2017 will be held from 3-19 March 2017. Our inaugural festival in 2016 was a huge success with more than 30 incredibly diverse events in venues around Wellington over 9 days. With so much enthusiasm our programme was bursting at the seams, so in 2017 we are thrilled to be able to spread out the events over 17 days.

The theme for Wellington Pride Festival | Tū whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-a-Tara 2017 is Fantasy. We will kick off with a big bang at the opening ceremony on 3 March 2017 and will build over two weeks to the Wellington Pride Parade and Out in the Park on Saturday 18 March 2017, followed by an after party and youth ball.

We are inviting individuals, groups and organisations from all of our diverse communities to put on events as part of the Festival, enter a float in the Parade, hold a stall or perform at Out in the Park, and volunteer your time behind the scenes to help make the magic happen!

How do I get an event in the festival?

The first thing you need to do is let us know about your event. Please let us know your ideas by emailing us at festival@wellingtonpride.com. Please get in contact with us as soon as possible - we are aiming to have events locked in by 15 December 2016.

If you’ve already got an idea of what you’d like to put on (or you have a regular event you’d like included in the programme), please fill in the Festival Event form to let us know your interest.

How do I get a youth event in the festival?

Our Youth Representative Bella is working hard to organise youth specific programming for Wellington Pride. If you or your organisation/group wants to put on a youth specific event (for 13-25 year olds) get in touch with Bella at youth@wellingtonpride.com or fill in the online Youth Event form.

We are aiming for Wellington Pride to be as accessible to everyone as possible, so we will try to hold as many of the events as possible for free or koha. We will also try to make as many of the events accessible to youth as possible (whether they are youth specific events or not), so think about holding your events in venues that are not only R18 venues.

How do I get involved in the parade?

The Wellington Pride Parade will be bigger and better than ever - this year we will be closing the streets, so start planning your floats now! To enter your group or organisation into the parade, please fill in the Parade Registration form by 18 Feb 2017. You can enter a truck, car, or walk/rollerskate/dance with your group. More information including the price list for registering vehicles in the parade is attached to this email. Get in touch with parade@wellingtonpride.com for more details.

How do I register my stall or perform at Out in the Park?

Out in the Park has been Wellington’s queer fair since 1986 and is a mainstay of the Wellington Summer calendar. The fair will be in Waitangi Park again in 2017 and will be chock full of community, friends, family, stalls, entertainment and fun! Stall prices are attached to this email.  Early bird prices are available until 31 Dec 2016. To book a stall please fill in the Stall Registration form and get in touch with stalls@wellingtonpride.com if you have any questions about holding a stall at the fair.

And performers, we want you! If you are itching to perform at Out in the Park, now is your chance to express your interest to put your act on the big stage. Email our Entertainment coordinators at entertainment@wellingtonpride.com.

How can I get help out with planning or volunteer on the day?

We are always looking for people to help us put on these events for our LGBTQI community and family. You can get involved for as little or as much time as you can spare, whether it’s offering your skills in admin support, graphic design or social media in the lead up to the festival, or volunteering as a marshall for the parade or as a stage or site hand at the fair. To express your interest in volunteering and to get a better idea for the types of activities we need help with, fill out the Wellington Pride Volunteer form or email volunteers@wellingtonpride.com.

We are so excited to come together and celebrate our community with you again in 2017!
